Video Game Reviews: Blocks That Matter

So, I haven’t blogged in a while, so I think I am going to go through my list of Steam games, since I have many MANY new ones. I have played through a few already, so that’s good. Now I have a review on Blacks That Matter, which is an indie game where you play as a small little drilling robot and collect blocks to build with. It is a side-scrolling game, and isn’t all that graphically intensive. This is a screenshot:

The only problem, and this is a major problem with me, is  that you have to build tetrominoes which is a shape that is made up of four blocks. I played a little bit if it before getting stuck, though it is still pretty fun. It is obviously part of the quickly expanding new sub-genre of games made entirely of blocks. I really cant make a very effective review of this game because I only got two levels in before I got stuck.

So I guess this one is going to be really short. I say that the game is worth getting based on my really small experience with it, especially since you are a robot, since that automatically makes it more awesome. I give it:

6/10

But only because I have not played it enough to gauge anything much about it. What I did play was good though.

VIDEO GAMES

So as everyone knows I must have one five hundred word blog post for my schoolwork assignment. So all I need is a subject, or maybe I should just ramble on and on. But anyway, I will talk about video games. I love video games. It really isn’t that surprising if you actually know me. I love Super Smash Bros. Smash and Melee, though I have played the first one, it kicks my butt pretty hard. I also like Halo Reach, and if we still had an Xbox I would be playing that or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 right now. Probably with Lili.

So I like Halo because the campaign is pretty good, not really groundbreaking, but I really like firefight mode. You basically just select one small map and then try to survive against hordes and hordes of hostile death aliens. I usually win, but that’s because I never play on hard or legendary, which are the two hardest difficulties. I would be playing Modern Warfare because it has some pretty cool missions, and I would also like to play games with Lili.

I also like some computer game (actually a lot of them) such as Half Life and Half Life 2, as well as some of the various mods that have come out for the two, such as Pirates, Vikings, and Knights for Half Life 2. That one is pretty self explanatory. You get to choose either a pirate, viking, or knight, and then try to steal treasure, or just kill the rest of the team. Another one is Natural Selection, for Half Life.  In that one you can be either an alien, which there are several different kinds of, or you could be a human.

As the aliens, you are undoubtedly getting the more interesting side of the fight, as you can be several different kinds of alien, such as Skulks, which are like dogs that move around really fast and can climb walls. Then there’s the Gorge, which can spit acid, as well as lay down little turrets and other mini structures. After Gorge came the Fade, which is a tall and deadly assassin like creature, who can teleport around and take a LOT of bullets.  And then you get to the Onos (OH NOS!!!), which is a giant space rhino, in space.

They are really powerful, and really strong, and really REALLY big. They are so powerful that there is a limit to how many you can have. That limit is: One Onos for every twelve Marines. Kind of odd isn’t it? Oops, I almost forget the Lerk, who is a flying alien. None of that silly GLIDING stuff, this is real FLYING, which is probably the most awesome thing about any game period. It can bite in Natural Selection, but in Natural Selection 2 it shoots spikes.

The Marines are the more boring end of the…stick? They don’t have different classes, but they DO have different weapons. You have the Machine Gun, which is a machine gun, really no need to explain. Then you have the Shotgun, again no need to explain that, there is one in every game. After that you have the Grenade Launcher which is a pretty awesome weapon, though in Natural Selection 2 it is just a mod for your machine gun. Last you have the flame thrower, with is also a pretty self explanatory weapon.

But there is one unique thing (that sticks out) about Natural Selection. One marine (and in Natural Selection 2, one alien) can get into the “Commander Chair” and play the game from a RTS perspective, one where you only have marginal control over the units. He can build new building,  drop ammo and medpacks when the Marines need it, as well as scan the battle field and tell them where all of the enemy Hives are.

He can also coordinate the movements and attacks of the marines. The aliens don’t don’t have commanders in the first one, but they can still make building and make expansions. Every time they get a Hive, then they can evolve into new aliens (If they have the resources). Such as the Fade. Now I guess that is all in this post now, as I have about two hundred more words than I was shooting for. BYE.

Grumble Grumble

I am back ONLY because I was dragged here by my toes. I guess now I write a blog post that only one person will read and will then be flooded by spam comments. So….There was a neat bug on the floor that Lili tried to capture, but while she was getting her jar,TRAGEDY STRUCK!! Cashmire stepped on it, delivering a critical hit and killing it instantly. Lili came back to much bug deadness. There was much sad.

Not much has happened today I was going to make this post at one of my later computer times, so I would have more to write about, but  Mom made me write it now. So…today I woke up, got up, sat around, got coffee, watched the baby, played with the baby, test my brain age, do school, ask mom to get on the computer, do more school, get on the computer, and now here I am. That was fun, right? So I guess later I will do even MORE school, get on the computer again, maybe play portal, get killed by the grammar Nazi’s for improper sentence structure and only having one paragraph in this entire post.

Well, that’s close to 200 words…so I guess it will be a while…Any way, now I am stuck because  have listed everything I have done today, including the probably killed by grammar nazi’s part, even though at the end all will be fixed. I think that maybe I will just ramble in, saying anything that comes to mind, like space station thirteen is a very fun video game. It’s all roguelike and fun and all that jazz. Here’s a picture.

See that’s what it looks like, with a couple of cluwnes, which are the green clowns, two engineers (the ones in the yellow-ish space suits) a security guard by the looks of it (The one with red pant, the whole suit is red, but he has body armor and a gas mask on, so I can’t be sure.), There are some gibs and blood in the background, the captain is right there (The one in the green suit) and it looks like they are in medbay. Look at that, alot more words! I’m making good progress here….lets see….another SS13 picture!

There’s another picture, and is actually a fairly accurate representation of an average day on space station13, an explosion, a guy hanging on trying not to get sucked into the hull breach cause by said explosion, some dude with a bloody toolbox who was probably the one who cause the explosion in the first place, a guy getting mauled by a pack of monkeys in the background….yeah that’s about right. All that’s missing is the security team standing there like they know what they’re doing.

That one is the most accurate of all, including, but not limited to, a useless security guard, the toxins storage on fire, a person on fire, an evil monkey, a xenomorph sneaking up behind the guard, a disabled security camera, an insane doctor killing a detective, the captains dead body outside the airlock, the emergency shuttle coming to pick them up, a janitor not giving a fuck, and an engineer killing a clown with a toolbox. Just another day on Space Station 13. :D

I’m back beetches

Sup. I have been on a super long “break” from my blog. And by break, of course, I mean I forgot my password AND my username. Well while I was gone I discovered a lot of new games, and rediscovered some old ones. I started playing Ace of Spades, which is a Minecraft-esque game where you build things, like forts, and oh, did I mention that it is a FPS? Yeah, its a FPS by the way.

I have had a lot of fun with it recently, but they added a new gun and nerfed the original gun. Also there are more and more people on, so there are also more trolls and griefers. The people also seemed to have discovered a votekick option, so now every few seconds they are trying to votekick someone. I have got some new tactics though.

I usually make tunnels to the enemy base, then make three to six sniper holes, then just go to town. When one is discovered I go to a different one. And when my little “sniper outpost” is discovered, I make a new one. So I also rediscovered Garry’s Mod, Or Gmod, and I actually got that, Half Life, Half Life 2, and Half Life 2 Lost Coast all part of a steam sale.

So not much has really happened, though I did make a video with Windows Movie Maker, to celebrate ten subscribers on Youtube.  Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN-w0e_KZ4c. Watch it and enjoy. Well I am out of here.

-Have fun storming the castle.
